The book does not offer strategies to rein in overdiagnosis. Nor does it provide a root-cause analysis of the reasons for the tsunami of overdiagnosis and overtreatment. The authors call for a change in the sacrosanct paradigm of early diagnosis and detection of disease. Admittedly, this would be a tough shift to bring about, as it seems so sensible and intuitive that health problems always should be detected early.
